PRO TOUCH community
PTC is powered by PTSA and was officially launched in October 2007 at the One KX Centre in Kings Cross, Camden. The project was the result of PTSA’s success and impact on the children and young people within the various boroughs in which PTSA was established, and its communities. PTSA felt that the many children and young people who didn’t reach or show their full potential for the Academy during the trials could still be empowered. Following community involvement, it was decided to reach out to more children and young people to provide a high quality standard of youth and sports services.
The Community programmes being delivered are wide-ranging, from fashion design and t-shirt projects, to free-style sports coaching in local estates, such as the Bourne Estate in Holborn. The programmes target both boys and young women from local disadvantaged, deprived communities, low income and overcrowded homes.
PTC is also delivering extended schools sports coaching for local primary schools, such as Argyle Primary based in Kings Cross as well as schools in Newham. Qualified sports coaches are currently working on Argyle’s breakfast and after school club with pupils in years three to six.
Some of the Community programmes are funded short term through small and medium sized grants and donations by various charities and foundations, such as the Camden Small Grants Programme, Origin Housing Group (4 Kix Project sponsored by Football Foundation), Community Action and Help A London Child. Some of previous funding PTSA had received and played a huge part in the journey to PTSA successes were Camden, Enfield, Islington and Westminster Youth Opportunities and Capital Funds as well as Football Foundation, Kick It Our One Game One Community, the v Project Young Volunteer Grants Scheme and many more
The most successful project that was delivered in (September 2010 – May 2011) is the Saturday and Sunday structured grass youth football league matches and training, which took place during the football season. Our boys under 8s, 9s, 10s, 11s, 12s, 13s, 15s and 17s play in the Camden and Regents Park Saturday Youth League, while the under 14s, 16s and 18s play in the Cheshunt Youth League Sundays. These teams boast well over 150 children and young people participating week in week out, who are benefiting from a healthy and sporting lifestyle. |
